Idea
Bistrot Lobo is a neighborhood upscale bistrot set in the lively streets of Badaro. Being there feels comfortable and familiar. People know each other, or know of each other. A quick drink on the terrace often turns into a long night of stories and easy conversations. We wanted to capture that spirit and bring back a touch of les années des lumières, when people gathered to exchange ideas. This led us to Les Fables de La Fontaine. The wolf is very present in these stories and carries symbolic weight. We also drew from the childlike world of these fables, le monde enfantin des fables de La Fontaine, to remind people to dream. Lobo means wolf, so the wolf became our anchor. It appears as a silhouette, a quiet reference to sayings like en parlant du loup. The scribbly illustrations echo how artists once sketched thoughts on a napkin.
Form
We used classic bistrot colors. Burgundy and terracotta set the French tone. Pastel pink and blue add a soft and modern touch that brings a sense of escape. The wordmark feels like clay, something that can be shaped. The wolf mark always appears as a silhouette, as if passing by or watching from the side. The illustrations show people talking, sharing, drinking coffee or wine. They represent the idea of quick sketches made during long conversations, much like during les années des lumières. The typography is playful and slightly irregular, almost handwritten, to keep the spirit of the Lobo soft and curious.
